CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Marco Bodt
Canon: Attack on Titan
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Suitability: Aging up wouldn’t really affect Marco that much. There wouldn’t be much of a physical change, and he’s already remarkably mature. He’s been through a lot, having enlisted in the military when he was 12 and going through intensive training, and he’s even gone into battle already. He could already be considered an adult, and he will be able to handle being older remarkably well, because it’s not really much of a leap.
Species: Human
Canon Point: Post-death.
World/Setting: N/A
History: Marco was born and raised in a city close to Wall Rose, and his childhood was uneventful. He lived with his family, and he was unaffected by the Titan’s attack on Zhiganshina and Wall Maria. He knew what happened, of course. It was hard not to hear of the walls that had stood for a hundred years being breached, and that refugees were fleeing to within Wall Rose in an attempt to be avoid being eaten.

But Marco was safe and secure in his town, and at twelve he enlisted and moved to the Trost district, hellbent on joining the Military Police and directly serving the king. In order for him to apply for a position in the Military Police he had to rank within the top ten out of his fellow trainees, so for the next three years of his life he threw himself into his training. A lot of people didn’t make it, but Marco did, and he forged several close bonds with his fellow trainees. At the end of his training, he was ranked eight out of ten, and he could take his place on the Military Police.

And then on the day before he would leave and join the Police, Trost’s gate was destroyed by the Colossal Titan who had broken down Zhiganshina’s gate five years ago.

Titans filed into the city, and Marco joined the fight against them just like every other trainee and soldier stationed in Trost. He managed to survive the initial, thanks largely to Eren Yaeger’s inexplicable transformation into a titan and the other boy taking out most of the remaining titans. Following Eren’s transformation and then capture, Marco regrouped with his fellow trainees, his plans for the future put on hold in order to deal with more pressing concerns, like the fact that the titans could possibly breach Wall Rose cut down the livable land once more.

When it was decided Eren Yaeger would block the hole in Trost’s gate, Marco was stationed guarding the wall, and serving as a last line of defense. Unfortunately for Marco, not everyone was to be trusted, and his three-dimensional maneuver gear, which enabled him to travel quickly and through the air, was stolen and he was left grounded. Unable to properly fight or flee, he was bitten in half by a titan and his life was cut short.

Personality: Marco is known for his kindness. He’s a gentle, kind soul, and that sets him apart from his fellow trainees in many ways. He’s got a smile for everyone, and he’s quietly supportive of everyone he works with. He has lofty goals, yes, but his dream is to serve and help others. He wants to serve his king - he doesn’t want to get far away from the frontlines, or save his own skin. He wants to work and serve and be the best he can be, but he wants everyone else to be their best too.

A lot of who Marco is can be seen in his friendship with Jean Kirschtein. He and the other boy are from different cities, but they became fast friends, and it’s through their friendship that you can really see just how kind and selfless Marco is. He acts as a balance for Jean, keeping him from getting into fights as best he can, and soothing his anger. He’s a bit like a barracks mom, being supportive of all the other trainees, but he keeps closest tabs on Jean. It’s more unusual to see the two apart than to see them apart, and what Marco wants most is to see Jean be happy and confident.

He doesn’t take kindly to people doubting themselves, at all. He’s a guiding force to people who have lost themselves, and he’s not afraid to be blunt. He still tries to be nice about things, but he doesn’t sugar coat much and he says what needs to be said. When the titans break into Trost, Jean begins doubting himself and his ability to lead, but Marco is quick to encourage him. As far as he’s concerned, Jean’s decisions are why he was able to survive for as long as he did, while more experienced soldiers fell in battle. He doesn’t hesitate to tell Jean that he understands weakness, which might be considered rude to some people, because why would you just tell that they’re weak? But it manages to motivate Jean, because Marco knows what needs to be said better than most people do.

He knows how to help, and he’s not afraid to ask for it, either. It’s common knowledge that he would work alongside Armin Arlert, and that the two would work on upkeep for their 3DMG together. He would offer anyone a helping hand, not just Jean, and he was well known among the trainees for his kindness. He’s not a pushover by any means, and he still worked hard in his training. He was motivated by the desire to serve the king, because he wanted that sort of honor. He wanted to serve and work to make things better, and he pushed himself in order to rank high enough to fulfill his dream. He would help others along the way, but he wanted his own future and he didn’t want to be held back.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to reap the fruits of his labors, dying before he could stop and think about what his future would be. The titans breaking in changed things for Marco, but he wasn’t going to back down. While he wasn’t necessarily fearless - because who wouldn’t be scared by giants that were eating the people you had spent the past three years with? - he managed to keep his cool, unlike many of the people who were in Trost during the invasion. Marco is calm and level-headed, and he’s quick on his feet. While he might not have been the most intelligent, or the most skilled, he was a calm, soothing presence, and he trusted those around him and those leading him to do their best and to make sure as many people survived as they could. He fought the titans and he never lost hope, which set him apart from several of the trainees, considering at least one trainee committed suicide during the attack. He was able to push aside his fears and make it through the invasion, and if it wasn’t for his 3DMG being stolen in his next venture out, he probably would have survived for quite a while because he was one of the few that didn’t seem to fall apart in the face of death.

All in all, Marco Bodt is a pretty straightforward person who died before he could make much of a difference. He is gentle and kind, while at the same time being firm and blunt. He’s one of the best people you can have on your side, because he will believe in you until the end and he’ll do what he needs to in order to make you believe in yourself, too.

Abilities/Weaknesses: Marco has no extraordinary powers or abilities. He’s just your average human, albeit one well trained in hand-to-hand combat and survival.

2: Adjusting to being alive again was strange. Probably stranger than it should have been, considering his death was pretty instantaneous. He was alive, he was left alone, betrayed, and then...there was a titan, and then...nothing at all. His death was quick, painless, and, after being left grounded, completely unexpected.

Still, it was strange being alive, especially in a place like this. It was completely unlike anything he ever would have imagined in his wildest dreams, not that he had many of those. It’s what he would have imagined that it would have been in Sina, with...excess and everyone seeming to be relatively happy and not-starving and no rations, but this was taken to an extreme degree. He felt like he was being far too serious about this, but, really, it was easier to be serious. He had never seen a naked woman before, and then all of a sudden there’s naked women and naked men around all the time. Men were nothing new - he did share a barrack, after all, but he’s still left horribly flustered by everything.

He just wants the earth to swallow him whole and take him to a place that he can handle. Being alive would be easier if he was at a place that wasn’t as wildly different as his home. Or that’s at least what Marco would assume, because he’s not sure if he really could handle it. He’ll do his best, though. He’s alive for a reason, even if he doesn’t know what it is just yet, and he’ll be damned if he lets himself fall apart in a place that’s very close to being a paradise. It’s not quite paradise because he’s pretty sure paradise wouldn’t leave him so uncomfortable, but it was as close as he can get.
